Walk or run for fall this weekend
September 29, 2012 by Mark
This year marks the 9th year of the Fall Color 5K Run and Walk, which takes place at the Arboretum. This challenging walk is a certified course over a nice rolling terrain, so offers a good opportunity to bring the family.
It takes place tomorrow, September 30, and is a great way to kick off the celebration of fall, as participants follow the designated route under the changing colors of the trees. The terrain has lush rolling hills with lots to see and this course is USA Track & Field (USATF) certified.
Some of the highlights of this run and walk include the Kids Dash, which has a separate entrance fee, the Awards ceremony, the ChronoTrack, which is a B-Tag system for timing the runners, the scrumptious pancake breakfast that follows the race, and recovery food. All this is without mentioning the 1,700 acres to be explored, which includes an award-winning, spectacular Children’s garden.
Registration for this event is currently underway and organizers suggest registering in advance. Also, photographs are taken throughout the race and will be posted at the Chicago Personal Photographers website soon after the race, perhaps offering a chance for photo printing or postcard printing as a souvenir.
Admission for this event is $30 for non-members, $25 for members, although a higher fee applies if registering on the day. It begins at 8:00 am at the Morton Arboretum, located at 4100 Illinois, Route 53 in Lisle, Illinois, just down the road from Warrenville. For additional details, please visit the Morton Arboretum website or call 630-968-0074.
