Ninth year on the move to get underway

An event known as the ‘Veterans’ Day 5K Run/Walk’ is coming up this weekend and is Cantigny’s ninth year of the event. The fundraising walk is taking place to benefit the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans and has a limited number of spaces for walkers and runners. The first 900 will be accepted and the event includes a pancake breakfast.

The Veteran’s Day 5K Run/Walk is a sponsored USA Track & Field (USATF) event that is completed on the Cantigny grounds using only blacktop surfaces. The race begins at the Visitor Center then moves out to the rolling hills located on the Cantigny Golf Course, returning back to the Visitor Center finish line. On route, runners/walkers will pass the Robert R. McCormick Museum, the 1st Division Museum, and the Cantigny Gardens.

The running/walking surfaces are the golf course’s cart paths, which will contain mile markers consisting of digital clocks and/or timers, plus refreshments will be available, with water at the start, finish, and midpoint of the race. Registration can be completed online and a brochure can be downloaded. The American Legion is supplying the breakfast and drawings for prizes will be held.

Poster printing, brochure printing, and flyer printing were probably used to advertise and promote this fundraising run/walk to this community and neighboring communities. Registration costs vary, breakfast is $6 per person, or $2 for kids aged under four.

The Veteran’s Day 5K Run/Walk will take place this Saturday, November 3, from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm with the run stating at 9:00 am at the Cantigny Golf Course located at 27W270 Mack Road in Wheaton, Illinois, a short drive from Warrenville. For updates, please call Brian Gray at 630-260-8167.
