Special holiday shop pops up in Oak Park
November 10, 2013 by Max
Bryan Northup and Jacqui Ross, coordinators of Pop Up by Design, plan to open a pop-up shop in Oak Park, just in time for the holiday shopping season.
A pop-up shop is a store that opens for a very limited period of time, usually three days to three months. These shops can sell anything and, in the case of Oak Park, the merchandise will be art created by local artists.
The Pop Up Holiday Shop is scheduled to open on Friday, November 15 in Oak Park’s downtown, at 1000 Lake Street. The shop will be open Thursday through Sunday, from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm. There will be two additional days added to the schedule before Christmas Eve.
According to Pop Up by Design’s website, the new store will be “vibrant” and brimming with handcrafted, locally-made, unique gifts. Items include everything from jewelry, vintage apparel, and ornaments, to original paintings, functional glass, and embellished furniture.
There will also be events at the shop, some of which include raffling off a package of items donated by local artists, with proceeds going to a local charity. Also featured will be kids’ workshops on the weekends and opportunities to participate in make-and-take craft projects. The shop will also feature face painting sessions and opportunities to decorate cookies for Santa.
The shop could work with a poster printing service to create attractive and fun posters to put throughout downtown Oak Park to call attention to the new store.
