Des Plaines holiday lighting ceremony plans are working out
November 17, 2011 by James
On December 2, 2011 at precisely 4 o’clock, downtown Des Plaines is going to be a remarkable sight. Those who live here will already be very familiar with the holiday lighting ceremony and the way it has traditionally helped Des Plaines embrace the Christmas season.
Once again, the combined efforts of the Holiday Lighting Committee are sure to pay off big this year. Both the ceremony and the rest of the agenda have been filled to the brim with wholesome activities that are sure to get the whole community involved.
This time around, students will be the ones starting off the festivities as they decorate the trees in the area. Naturally, Santa Claus will be making an appearance some 15 minutes later and word has it that the organizers have not yet given up on finding an ice carver to participate in the night’s events. Several local talents have also been tapped for the entertainment line-up.
After the ceremony has taken place local businesses will be getting involved by providing snacks and hot chocolate to those headed to the Des Plaines Theater for the holiday movie special.
Even though plans are coming together, the city’s latest update did say that there were openings still available for those who would like to be event sponsors. Depending on what the sponsorship package includes, businesses who choose to provide further financial support for the ceremony may require printing services that range from banner printing to flyer printing.
Those who are interested in becoming sponsors are advised to contact Mayor Moylan by telephone for more information.
