Summer festival set to make a splash

The 13th annual Summer Sunset Festival is taking place in Lake in the Hills this Labor Day weekend. The event is presented by the Algonquin Lake in the Hills Chamber of Commerce.

A wealth of fun activities have been scheduled at the festival, including carnival rides and games, a Kids’ Korner, musical entertainment, fireworks, a horseshoe tournament, and a parade. A new feature this year will be a wine-tasting event at which guests will get a souvenir wine glass and five tasting tickets for $10. In addition, there will be a talent contest, a custom car show and a ‘melon propellin’’ event.

An arts and crafts show will be held on August 31 from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm. Local artisans can rent a 12×12 foot booth for $50. They will be selling a wide variety of items, probably including paintings, prints, ceramics, and jewelry.

Finally, a business expo taking place on September 1 from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm will give local businesses the opportunity to showcase their products and services. Booths can be rented for $50.

This festival will no doubt attract artisans and businesspersons from all over the region, including nearby McHenry. Local print companies are likely to have been asked to provide such products as banners and signs to market this annual event.

The Summer Sunset Festival will take place at Sunset Park from August 30 to September 1 from 3:00 pm – 10:30 pm each day. Admission is free for most events, carnival ride tickets are $1 each or $40 for 44, and a $20 wristband is also available.
