Local annual parade is looking for participants
March 22, 2014 by Mark
The 43rd annual Young at Heart Parade will be held in Loves Park this May. Organizers are currently looking for participants to sign up.
The theme of this year’s parade will be ‘Celebrate Baseball: America’s Pastime’, and the Parade Marshal is set to be Helen Wyatt of the Rockford Peaches. Everyone is encouraged to feature their favorite team colors on their floats, banners, or costumes. Participation is open to businesses, non-profit organizations, and community groups of all kinds. They can choose to ride in a vehicle or a float, feature a mascot, or walk in a group as in a marching band or Girl Scout troop.
Businesses can treat their participation in the Loves Park parade as free advertising. Many of them may decide to visit their local banner printing company to have a product made that lists their company name and is designed to match this year’s theme.
Prizes will be handed out for floats in several categories, including two youth winners and the best match for the theme. Both the commercial and community service/non-profit winner will receive a $50 gift certificate.
Organizations that wish to take part in the parade, which is taking place on May 24 beginning at 9:00 am, must send in their application by April 25. For more information about the parade, contact Barb Schwengels at 815-654-5033.
