Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful is looking for nominees for awards
February 9, 2012 by Mark
The Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful (KNIB) Earth Day awards are accepting nominations until March 2nd. The awards are handed out to individuals, corporate, youth and community groups who are dedicated to “making and keeping their community a cleaner, happier and healthier place to live.”
There are three awards up for grabs which will be awarded on April 5 at an Earth Day luncheon: Outstanding corporate friend of the environment award; Outstanding individual friend of the environment award; and the Hutchcroft environmental award for youth 18 or younger. All of these have one thing in common; the nominee must have demonstrated a commitment to the environment “through recycling, reusing and/or renewing resources and advocacy of the same within the community.” All nominations must be accompanied by a cover letter explaining why they should be chosen for the award.
Many local businesses in northern Illinois, including Loves Park are dedicated to environmental sustainability. For example, printing companies are switching to vegetable based dyes in their inks, using recycled paper, avoiding papers created using old growth forests, recycling what paper they use themselves and are taking steps to ensure any dangerous chemicals they do still use are responsibly disposed of. It does not take much to be a responsible corporate citizen. If residents of the area in which your business is located will appreciate that you are concerned about the future of the area and want the community to remain a safe and healthy place to live.
