Attend the Loves Park holiday parade

November 14, 2011 by

The 14th annual Light up the Parks Holiday Parade will take place on November 20 from 4:45 pm. It is a great way to get into the holiday spirit and anyone can apply to take part with their own float.

All residents were encouraged to apply to take part in the parade, including business owners, non-profit organizations, churches, families and youth organizations such as the Girl and Boy Scouts. If you are taking part in the parade, Loves Park printing companies can help you create an exciting float. Colorful banners are a low-cost solution that can help spruce up any float and make it highly visible, as can lights, garlands and flowers.

The parade starts at Schneider electric and ends up at Elm Avenue and Roosevelt Road. The floats will be judged and awards will be handed out at the Machesney Park Village Hall on November 26 at the annual holiday tree lighting ceremony. Floats are judged in four categories: Best business entry, best community group entry, best youth entry and the Mayor’s Award.

Parades have always been important to American’s. While most parades take place on the 4th of July, on St. Patrick’s Day and on Veterans Day, holiday parades are becoming more and more frequent. While many communities have long had Santa Claus parades many of them have become nothing more than a way to draw customers to the store where Santa Claus is appearing, parades like the Light up the Parks Holiday Parade are a return to less commercial and more family-orientated holiday celebrations.
