Local event to celebrate Irish culture

The city of Oak Forest, in association with the Oak Forest – Crestwood Area Chamber of Commerce, is presenting the 5th annual Oak Forest Fleadh in just over a week.

Those who plan to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day can get an early start on the festivities in downtown Oak Forest. The majority of the events will take place on Cicero Avenue.

The celebrations will consist of customer appreciation parties at local stores, a 5K race, a food drive, and pub and restaurant open houses. There will also be a Zumba party and a family parade, while the Bus of Fun will also drop by with games, entertainment, and cotton candy. There will be a free shuttle for those planning to take part in the open houses.

Those who wish to take part in the parade can do for free; the only exception is that businesses that are not members of the Chamber of Commerce pay $195. The parade is expected to feature bands, dancers, and local community organizations.

Businesses who plan to participate in the parade may decide to invest in banner printing services to either decorate a vehicle or carry during the route. While this is a local event, no doubt some of those from surrounding areas, such as Lansing, will also want to celebrate Irish culture.

The event will take place on March 8. For more information, call 708-687-4600.
