TigerDirect and Systemax are sponsoring the Chicago Regional Charity PC Race at the CompUSA/TigerDirect.com retail store in Hoffman Estates on December 8, beginning at 2:30 PM. Competitors must be 18-years-old or over.
The PC Race is free to enter and features 10 people competing with each other to see who can rebuild a personal computer fastest. Each competitor is given a pre-build computer that has been disassembled and they must put it back together again.
This is a country-wide competition in which the first prize winner receives a $500 gift card to TigerDirect.com and $500 is donated to his or her favorite charity. The second prize winner receives a $250 gift card and a $250 donation. Both prize winners will also win a trip to the finals, which will take place in Las Vegas at the Wynn Resort on January 8, 2013. The winner of the national round wins $1,000 in cash and the same amount is donated to a charity of his or her choice. The successful competitor also gets to keep the computer they reassembled.
The race is unique and it will give people the chance to display their technical skills and show off a little. The public is welcome to watch the race. No doubt organizers are working with Hoffman Estates printing companies to advertise this fun event. They might be planning to produce flyers to be displayed in various computer stores throughout the area to find both racers and spectators.
