Voices warming up in Champaign

July 7, 2013 by

The ‘A Cappella Workshop, Harmony in Champaign’ invites people to join in with one of the hottest new trends sweeping the singing world.

This is a one-day workshop where guests will learn two songs. Poster printing, flyer printing, and additional printing services were likely used to advertise this harmonic workshop to people in this community and the surrounding regions. Well-voiced men in the area might be sorry to hear that this event is open to women only, ages 16 to 25.

During the workshop, participants will learn two unique songs, see what the correct posture is for singing, and be taught the proper techniques for breathing. There will be information on how to tune chords without the use of a piano, and how chords ringing can be much more fun than imagined.

The instructor for this class is Jackie Compton, a talented and dynamic director, who also directs the local a cappella chorus. The chorus sings pieces from several genres, including swing, modern, pop, and jazz. A pizza luncheon is provided in the cost and, by afternoon’s end, it is hoped that all guests will have made new friends and be harmonizing beautifully.

The cost of this session is $21 if registered in advance and $31.50 if paid at the door. The A Cappella Workshop will be happening on Saturday, July 13, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Springer Cultural Center located at 301 North Randolph Street in Champaign, Illinois. To learn more about this event, or to register in advance, please visit the Springer Cultural Center website or call its office during business hours.
