Running shoes at the ready this weekend

The St. Joseph Community Festival 5K is an annual walk/run fundraising challenge to benefit the St. Joseph’s Middle School, as well as the track and cross country teams of boys and girls at its equivalent high school. Promotion for this event has probably taken the form of poster and flyer printing in the last few days.
The proceeds will be used to pay for travel expenses, warm-ups, and uniforms, plus to assist those who need it with other expenses that might occur throughout the track season.
The day will include a fun run for children of one kilometer in length, and awards will be given out across categories for the 5k. This year, a friendly competition has been set up with all the communities in Champaign County and runners must compete in three of the four races in order to qualify for the AASK Championship race. The race’s best times will be taken.
The course is very scenic and offers some unique challenges, but will provide a good workout and lots of fun too. The cost to take part is $20 per adult and $10 per child, but all runners must pre-register.
The St. Joseph’s Community Festival 5K will be happening on Saturday, August 10, beginning at 7:30 am leaving from downtown St. Joseph at Main Street and Route 150 in St. Joseph, Illinois, just down the road from Champaign. To learn more about this race, or to register, please visit the St. Joseph Community Festival website.
