Help others to live independently

The 14th annual Resources for Community Living gala benefit will be held at Medinah Banquets in Addison on April 21 from 5:30-11:55 pm. Tickets are $95 and guests are encouraged to come dressed as they wish.

The evening will start off with a reception of drink and appetizers. It will then be followed by dinner, a show by Vince Amore, live and silent auctions and a raffle drawing from Southwest Airlines. Local companies from the area including nearby Rolling Meadows are being encouraged to donate items to the auctions. Printing companies in the area will most likely be helping the event by providing banner printing and other printing services such as invitations.

Resources for Community Living:

“offers local adults with developmental disabilities opportunities to achieve greater self-esteem, dignity and participation in all aspects of community life.”

The organization offers services such as help in finding housing, help finding jobs, teaches living skills and holds many social events.

Those who are living with developmental disabilities are quite capable of having worthwhile and satisfying lives, they just need a little help to get started. It is in the best interest of society to help these people to get the most out of their lives; they become tax payers and less dependent on society to support them. Things definitely have changed; in the not-so-distant past people with developmental disabilities were locked away and institutions and not given much chance to develop their minds. Organizations such as Resources for Community Living are necessary and well deserving of all the help they can get.
