Get your Feet on the Street in Towson
June 8, 2012 by Sarah
Feet on the Street is a Friday night block party presented by the Towson Chamber of Commerce that takes place each week from May 18 until September 28. Allegheny Avenue between York Road and Washington Avenue is closed off to traffic each Friday from 6:00 – 9:30 PM.
This event features live musical entertainment, lots of food, beer and wine, prizes, a limbo contest and hula hoops. There are also plenty of children’s activities including bounce houses. Guests are asked to bring their own chairs.
Many towns have a hard time bringing residents into the downtown area. Many are close to larger cities and many have large department and “box” stores in the outlying areas. Stores in the downtown area are often suffering and finding it difficult to get people to do their shopping there. Thankfully, events such as Feet on the Street help to get people back into the downtown area. It brings attention to the unique small stores and restaurants who are often struggling. Once people are exposed to these stores and see the unique and quality merchandise that they sell, they will be more likely to shop at them in the future.
Those downtown Towson stores can take advantage of the event by sending out a flyer to the community. Flyer printing companies can help them to design and print a flyer that will let the community know about the event and how they are participating in it. Including a money-off coupon on that flyer to be used during Feet on the Street is one way to draw people in.
