Local charities out to benefit from September events

August 29, 2013 by

Two local charities will benefit from events being held on Kent Island this September.

Firstly, the Run4Shelter will raise funds for Queen Anne’s County Christian Assistance’s Our Haven Shelter, transitional home and food bank. There will be several run/walks to choose from, such as the 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and Kids’ Crab Run. Awards will be given for top male and female finishers in overall, master, and individual age categories. Food and drinks will be available for all participants.

Not long after that, the 4th annual Artisans’ Fair will take place in Centreville. It will feature over 30 artists who will be selling a variety of items, including clothing, birdhouses, jewelry, and paintings. There will also be three raffles held during the day. The fair is presented by the Symphony Village Outreach Program, Inc. and will raise funds for the Crossroads Community Queen Anne’s County Dental Program.

It is likely that both of these events will attract visitors from near and far, including Stevensville. Local print companies will also probably be helping the organizers design and print items, such as flyers, to promote both events.

The Run4Shelter run/walk will take place on the Kent Island Cross Trail on September 14 beginning at 6:30 am. Registration fees before September 7 are $30 for the 5K and 10K, $70 for the half-marathon, and $10 for the Kids’ Crab Run. For more information. call 410-739-4363.

For those more interested in the Artisans’ Fair, it will be held at American Legion Jeff Davis Post 18 on September 21 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm, and is free to attend. Call 410-758-3194 to learn more about the day’s events.
