Walk or run for a good cause
August 25, 2012 by Mark
The Freedom Run and Ride will take place at Shorebird’s Stadium on September 29, beginning at 7:00 am. Entry fees before September 24 are $40 for the 10K run, $25 for the 5K run, $35 for a 25, 62, or 75-mile bike ride, or $50 for those who wish to run and bike. Proceeds go to benefit the Melanoma Research Foundation’s Miles for Melanoma and the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce.
All participants will receive a registration package that includes a T-shirt. Awards are to be presented to the top three participants in each gender. In addition, there will be awards for the top three males and females within each age category and for the top two in the aged 14 and under category. During the day, there will be refreshments, food, and entertainment to keep visitors occupied.
Sponsorships are available from $100 to $2,500 and will include recognition at the event depending on how much the sponsor donated. This will be carried out via signs along the route and possibly banners at Shorebird’s Stadium, and they will also have their name printed on the official T-shirt. In all likelihood, organizers will be working with Salisbury printing companies to provide the signs and the banners necessary to thank those responsible for supporting this worthwhile event.
Miles for Melanoma is a series of walk/run events that takes place in various communities in the United States. Money raised goes to support the Melanoma Research Foundation in their fight against this often terminal cancer – a condition from which over 9,000 persons in the United States die every year.
