Historic Pocomoke Fair returns this August

July 30, 2013 by

The Great Pocomoke Fair is taking place later this week. Originally set up over 100 years ago, the fair is a longstanding local tradition.

There will be games, food concessions, and a range of contests – some of which are the Junior Miss, Little Miss, and Mister competitions and a Kute Kids Contest. Games will include a sack race, an egg toss, and a greased pig contest, for which the first, second, and third prize winners in four age divisions will receive ribbons or, in the case of the greased pig contest, the first prize winners of each division will claim a $50 cash prize.

There will also be tractor pulls, a demolition derby, an ATV jamboree, and raffles. Musical entertainment will be provided by the King’s Ambassadors. In addition, there will be both indoor and outdoor livestock exhibits and vendors will be selling a wide variety of items.

Vendors, who can apply to receive space free of charge, will likely be preparing for the fair by investing in services such as sign and banner printing. Many of them will be coming from all over the area, including nearby Salisbury, and will want to draw attention to their booths.

The Great Pocomoke Fair will take place at the Fairgrounds from August 1 to 3 from 5:00 – 11:00 PM each day. Admission is $2, or half price with a donation of four non-perishable food items to be donated to the Samaritan Shelter. For more information about the fair, call 410-957-4486.
