View the art of the future in Rockville
February 10, 2012 by Mark
The Rockville Student Art Show will take place at Glenview Mansion at the Art Gallery at Rockville from March 4-27. The show is a presentation of the City of Rockville and the Rockville Art League and is open to children from kindergarten through to grade twelve. Admission to the exhibit is free.
There will be an opening reception on March 4 from 1:30-3:30 pm. Refreshments will be served and the award presentation ceremonies will take place starting at 2 pm. Award ribbons will be given to winners from grades three to twelve and everyone who participates will receive a certificate. Rockville printing companies will no doubt be called upon to provide both the printed ribbons and the certificates that will be needed.
The contest is open to children who reside within the city limits of Rockville. Each person can submit only one item which can be 2 or 3-D; 3-D displays must be standalone. Art can be in any media but 2-D works must be framed or matted. Submissions are being accepted until February 26 and can be picked up after the exhibit.
With many schools cutting back on art classes these days, contests and art shows such as this are becoming more important. Art training and the creation of art are extremely important no matter what career path a child decides to take. Art teaches discipline, it encourages creative thinking and it also teaches patience; all skills that are highly viewed in today’s business environment.
