Meet fellow women business owners over lunch

The Women Business Owners of Montgomery County is holding a networking lunch at the Legacy Hotel on April 19 from 11:30 am-2 pm. Tickets are $35 for members or $45 for guest.

The speaker for the event will be Susan Kohm of Handmade Life who will be discussing “We know what our message is, but do we know how it is being received?” The Rockville based organization suggests that those who plan to attend bring a business card. Printing a few extras to bring along is a smart business decision. They do, however, also suggest that before you hand out your business cards you should get to know the person a little. Networking over lunch is an easy way to do that; there is no hard sell and women will be genuinely interested in what you have to say.

It often seems more difficult for women to run a successful business and to form a large enough referral network. It may not always be true, but women business owners sometimes face obstacles that men don’t often face. It can be harder for a male business owner to take a women business owner seriously, through no fault of her own. Some men would rather network with other men over drinks or sports; they often don’t know what to talk about with a woman business peer. Organizations such as the Women Business Owners introduce women to other women in the same situation and help to give them confidence in dealing with any other business owners they meet.
