Celebrate Memorial Day in Rockville
May 9, 2012 by Mark
The 24th annual Hometown Holidays will take place in Rockville from May 26th – 28th. This is a free event although some activities include a fee.
The weekend will feature 40 free concerts on eight stages, the Taste of Rockville, children’s and teens’ activities, a Marketplace craft festival, and the 68th annual Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade. There will be a teen party for middle schoolers on May 27 from 7:00 – 10:00pm which costs $10. It will feature a DJ, dancing, pizza, and soft drinks. Children’s activities over the weekend will include a Reptiles Alive show and various bounce houses and games; some of the activities have a fee.
The Marketplace craft festival will take place from May 26th – 27th and will feature the arts and crafts of local artists. Crafts will be hand-made and unique; perfect for gifts. The artists will be selling such items as jewelry, paintings, drawings, home accessories and fiber creations. They will probably want to work with Rockville printing companies to draw attention to their arts and crafts for sale. Banner printing services can help their table stand out from the rest, as will providing items such as catalogs or postcards featuring an example of their work.
The weekend winds up with the Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade on Monday. Celebrations will start at 9:00 am with the Rockville Band and Chorus; an all-volunteer band. At 9:30 am a wreath will be laid in honor of veterans at Rockville Town Square. The parade will begin at 10:30 am and will feature marching bands, drill teams and veterans.
