Long-running Frederick fair continues to entertain

A longstanding community tradition is about to make its return to Frederick. This weekend, the Great Frederick Fair will be kicking off for the 151st straight year. Banner printing is almost certainly on the rise as vendors and other parties participating in this event prepare to attract attendees to their booths.

Visitors to the fair will enjoy all of the usual snacks and treats, including hot dogs, hamburgers, and pie. There will be plenty of entertainment for adults and children alike, including a wagon parade, carnival rides, and a kids’ expo tent. A number of well-known musical artists will also be on hand to give live concerts. This year, the lineup will include The Beach Boys, Martina McBride, and Hunter Hayes.

The fairgrounds will be the site of numerous livestock shows. Farmers and ranchers from all over Frederick County will be entering their animals into competitions. Judges will be awarding prizes to horses, cattle, hogs, and poultry. On the non-agricultural side, there will be contests for pet rabbits and dogs.

Young people from local 4-H clubs will not only be showing off their animals at the fair, but giving a fashion show and demonstrating their baking skills. Some of the youngsters will be entering their homemade desserts into a cake auction.

The Great Frederick Fair will open at 5:00 pm on Friday, September 13 and continue through Saturday, September 21. It will close at 10:00 pm on the first day and run from 9:00 am until 10:00 pm on all of the remaining days. All events will take place at 797 East Patrick Street.
