Fun-filled charity event coming to Frederick area

Frederick area residents are invited to spend part of their Memorial Day weekend at a family-friendly event that will benefit a well-known charity.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation will be hosting its ‘Pignic’ fundraiser at Fort Ritchie in nearby Cascade. Stationery printing may be on the rise as Make-A-Wish reaches out to the numerous organizations that have agreed to serve as sponsors for the festivities.

A barbecue competition will be one of the main highlights of the event. At least 45 professional cooking teams will be on hand to prepare their dishes for the public and a panel of judges. Those who place well in the contest will receive cash prizes and other awards.

Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a number of other activities as well, such as going kayaking and purchasing arts and crafts. Kids will have fun playing in a special ‘zone’ with inflatable rides. There will also be live entertainment and plenty of snacks for everyone. In addition, the event will feature a special service to honor fallen American soldiers.

Proceeds from the Pignic will go entirely toward the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s efforts to fulfill the desires of sick children in northern Maryland and southern Pennsylvania.

The fundraiser will run from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm on Saturday, May 25 and from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm on Sunday, May 26. The entrance fee will be $8 per car load, although uniformed soldiers will receive free admission.

Fort Ritchie is located at 200 Castle Drive. Those seeking more information may call (717) 816-7252.
