Golf tournament to benefit youth in Crofton area
May 15, 2013 by Mark
Crofton area residents are invited to participate in a charity event that will benefit the local chapter of a national youth organization.
In less than two weeks’ time, the Bowie Boys and Girls Club will be hosting its second annual golf tournament fundraiser. Poster printing may be in higher demand as the organizers and sponsors of this competition work to recruit participants from the community.
The event will be held on the 18-hole course at the Bowie Golf and Country Club, and those who place first, second, and third in the tournament will receive prizes. There will also be awards for the contender who manages to putt the ball closest to the pin, and for the participant who achieves the longest drive.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will go directly toward athletic, educational, and social programs at the Bowie division of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). A non-profit group, it plans to hold a number of similar golf tournaments across the country this year in its efforts to increase resources for children who lack mentors and access to after-school activities.
Interested parties must pre-register to compete in the event. The cost is $80 per person, including lunch. The Bowie BGCA is still seeking individuals and groups to sponsor specific holes on the golf course.
The tournament will begin at 8:00 am on Friday, May 24. The Bowie Golf and Country Club is located at 7420 Laurel Bowie Road. Those who would like to participate or act as sponsors may call (202) 367-1952.
