Bel Air area families welcomed to campout fundraiser

June 4, 2013 by

Families from the Bel Air area are invited to spend some quality time outdoors at a fun-filled community event taking place later this month.

The Anita C. Leight Estuary Center in nearby Abingdon will be hosting a ‘Great American Backyard Campout’. Flyer printing may be on the rise as the organizers of this overnight activity prepare promotional and informational materials for prospective participants.

The campout will be open to skilled outdoorsmen and amateurs alike. Children of all ages, including infants and toddlers, are expected to attend the event with their parents. Families will be encouraged to supply their own camping gear for the trip, although it will be possible to rent tents, sleeping bags, and other supplies from personnel at the estuary’s facilities. Attendees will start their own campfires and entertain themselves with stories and games.

The event is part of a larger movement under the direction of the National Wildlife Federation, which carries the mission of educating children about nature. Proceeds will go toward programs that teach youth about the health benefits of being outdoors.

The campout will begin at 6:30 pm on Saturday, June 22 and end at 10:30 am on Sunday, June 23. The cost will be $40 for families of up to five people. Larger families will need to pay $10 for each additional child. Attendees will be required to pre-register for the event and may do so by calling (410) 612-1688.

The Leight Estuary Center is located at 700 Otter Point Road.
