Learn how to market your non-profit business

The American Marketing Association (AMA) Baltimore is presenting a round-table discussion on January 27 from 7:30-9 am. The meeting will be held at the Big Brother Big Sisters of Maryland offices. Tickets are $20 for AMA members and $25 for non-members.

The Non-Profit Marketing Special Interest Roundtable will discuss the challenges faced by non-profit organizations, will list the best practices of non-profit organizations and will give you tips on how to make your organization a success.

Non-profit organizations are not only charitable ones; they can be any kind of business in which all the profits are returned to help the organization to grow. All of the decisions made in a non-profit organization are usually made by a board of directors made up of professionals in the field.

Like other for-profit businesses, those starting a small non-profit business must take certain steps. First of all you should define the market you wish to compete in, develop a business plan, decide on what marketing materials you feel are necessary (do you want to work with Baltimore brochure printers to create a product describing your business?), you need to be well versed in the local regulations, you need an accountant with experience in the non-profit tax laws, you need to use social media to make your organization known, and you need to network with fellow business leaders.

When starting a business, there is a lot of help out there such as this roundtable discussion. Your local Chamber of Commerce or marketing association will point you in the right direction.
