The Farmington Area Goodfellows will soon kick off their annual food drive, which helps those in need in the community.

This year, the Goodfellows are asking for donations of non-perishable foodstuffs, toys, and books. Those who wish to make cash contributions should mail them directly to Goodfellows at: Farmington Area Goodfellows, 31455 W. Eleven Mile Road, Farmington Hills, MI 48335. Collection boxes are located at at a number of locations, including the city hall.

The Goodfellows have been working to help others for many years. In 2012, they helped 147 families, eleven developmentally disabled adults, and 67 senior households with items ranging from books, to diapers, to toys, to food. They were also able to raise $78,453 in cash to continue their efforts, and hope to surpass these numbers in 2013.

In addition to donations, the group is looking for volunteer drivers to help with distribution next month. Delivery Day is Saturday, December 21, and anyone interested should visit the website to sign up, or call 248-473-1360, as of December 2, to volunteer.

The organization, which is an all-volunteer public charity, relies on the generosity of the community for support, and expects to help more than 300 individuals in Farmington Hills and Farmington this year.

The Goodfellows could work with a poster printing company to create a colorful poster to place in downtown windows, reminding people about the drive. This year’s event begins on November 25 and runs through December 20.
