Scholarship program deadline looms

March 28, 2013 by

The deadline is closing in for youngsters hoping to secure scholarships as part of the Southgate Optimist Club’s annual scheme.

Formed in 1946, the group has been serving the youth of the area ever since through educational, recreational and scholarship programs. Each year, the Optimist Club sponsors a scholarship of $100 to one boy and one girl graduating from high school to use towards their college or university of choice.

The scholarships are based on merit and each applicant must be graduating from the City of Southgate, or be children of Optimist Club members. Criteria used to award the scholarship include academic achievement, community involvement, extra-curricular activities, and a written essay.

A deadline has been set for all applications to be received by April 1. The application is available via the Southgate Optimist Club website. Upon completion of the application, it should be returned to Brock Muller at the Southgate Optimist Club.

Frequently, local printing companies work with high schools and colleges in preparing announcement materials for scholarship programs and upcoming events. Catalog printing works well to advise the graduating seniors of available scholarship programs and other financial assistance. Such printed itineraries can also provide recognition for the various community efforts and businesses providing resources for local young people.

For more information on the scholarship program through the Southgate Optimist Club, contact the main office at 513-240-0733. The club website contains information about the club, including history, programs, upcoming events, contributions to the community, and contacts.
