Equine event trots into Alexandria Fairgrounds

August 27, 2012 by

This week, from Wednesday, August 29 until Monday, September 3, the Alexandria Fair and Horse Show will be happening at the Alexandria Fairgrounds located at 100 Fairground Land in Alexandria, Kentucky, a short drive down the road from Southgate.

This annual fair has been happening for the last 150 years and is one of the most cherished events for people who love horses and enjoy watching them compete. This is great fun for the entire family, as it features a parade, farm animal, rides, and midway games. Besides family activities, this fair features animal competitions, a baby contest, 4-H exhibits, karaoke bands, art and craft exhibits and competitions, and all kinds of other interesting activities.

This fair began in 1856 with the assistance of 10 local, community-focused people, and has run each Labour Day weekend since. Today, the board that runs the fair still works on a voluntary basis to make this one of the best fairs in the area. The fair is sponsored by many of the local businesses who present the competition prize packages and monies. The beauty pageants for this fair take place on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Horse shows run each night, except on Sunday when they occur in the afternoon.

Poster printing and digital flyer printing may have been used to promote this event to the residents of the community and surrounding regions, although it is always well attended by all communities in this area. Admission is $8 per person over age six and parking is provided free. For more information on this fall fair, please visit the Alexandria Fair and Horse Show website or call 859-635-2667.
