Louisville ready to take the March plunge

December 19, 2013 by

The 2014 Louisville Polar Plunge will take place in March in Louisville. Presented by Tumbleweed, the event is one of the largest Special Olympics fundraisers each year, never failing to create a festive atmosphere.

Donations are solicited by participants for the Polar Plunge. Operated similar to a walk-a-thon, the event has a different element in that participants plunge into a chilly Ohio River from the docks on the Waterfront in Louisville.

The Polar Plunge raised $308,000 in 2013 to support the fundraising efforts of the Special Olympics Kentucky.

Pre-registration for the event will take place at the Tumbleweed on the Waterfront on February 27. The Polar Plunge will take place on March 1, beginning at 9:30 until noon for registration. Opening ceremonies will begin at 10:00 am, and the brave plunging will start at 10:30 am along with a costume contest.

At noon, awards will be given out. By 12:20 pm all participants must be onsite for the Post Plunge Bash at Tumbleweed.

Many sponsors contribute to the Polar Plunge including Tumbleweed, State Farm, Republic Bank, 84WHAS, The Fox Rocks, Radio Now 98.9, and CBS Outdoor. As sponsors are an integral key to the success of the event, more sponsoring entities are likely to be sought.

Poster printing is an effective way to market events of this type. By printing full color posters with a glossy finish and hanging them throughout the region at various points, the community is made aware of the activities.
