Beds rev up for April races

Next month, the Great Bed Races is sure to be a highly anticipated feature of the annual Kentucky Derby Festival Bed Races held in Louisville. Thousands of participants will gather together to cheer on the 40+ teams as they race by on beds converted into race vehicles.

The beds have specific requirements to be met in order to be a qualified race participant. Each racer is required to be at least 18 years old and must wear a helmet. They must also wear a Bed Race or a Pegasus event pin for access into the dorm section. Judges will have the final decision at the conclusion of the race.

All beds must be decorated to be included in the parade. Teams generally dress in crazy and fun costumes to go along with their decorated bed vehicles. The event is covered by local media with WAVE TV presenting live coverage.

There will be an awards ceremony for various events, including fastest course time, cone eater, best decorated, and most entertaining. The event will be presented on April 28 at 6:00 pm.

A special Great Bed Races Pajama Party will be held on April 24 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. In addition to being a fun get together, race positions will be declared at the pajama party.

Through poster printing via a local print company, events such as these are easily communicated to the public. A poster generally has all of the pertinent information regarding an event. When printed in full color with a glossy finish, it attracts attention readily.
