Old-time styles and fashions on display
May 19, 2013 by James
Presented by the Lexington Vintage Dance Group, ‘Downton Abbey’ will start the week ahead and feature costumes and dances from across the 19th and early 20th Century.
In classical period fashion, the dances performed at this event will showcase the period and its dress with elegance and style, right up to World War I, with its exuberance and chaos continuing into the roaring 1920s.
During this showcase, which will probably be promoted through poster and flying printing carried out like nearby print companies, organizers will demonstrate how the social and political changes taking place in England were fast-paced and were reflected in the dances performed during the time.
The Lexington Vintage Dance troupe is also welcoming new members to its group and is seeking men or couples who would like to learn the dances from across the eras. Some dance training would be preferable, although it does not need to be of the vintage variety. It holds its regular ‘Dance of the Month’ session roughly in the middle of every month.
Admission is free and everyone is welcome to attend and see how the era was shaped by its dance and costume. Downton Abbey will be happening tomorrow, May 20, from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Laurel County Public Library located at 120 College Park Drive in London, Kentucky.
