Festival celebrates Italian culture

May 8, 2016 by

The 25th Newport Italianfest is taking place next month for four days.

It is a celebration of all things Italian and will naturally feature traditional foods. Music will be provided by several artists, including the Pete Wagner Orchestra, Ragdoll (a Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons tribute band), and Moreno Fruzetti. A citizen will also be honored with the Italian-American Sons and Daughters Award, and Larry Giancola will be celebrated in a ceremony.

There will also be a golf outing, a family photo booth, and a fireworks display. In addition, guests can participate in cooking and pizza eating contests.

This year will be the first annual Lauren Hill’s 5K Spaghetti Run. Proceeds will be donated to Layup 4 Lauren, which raises funds for The Cure Starts Now Foundation. This will be held on June 11 beginning at 10:00 AM. Participation fees are $40 until June 9 and $50 after, and will include a t-shirt and a pasta box.

Visitors from nearby communities such as Florence will want to make their way to the festival for at least one day. Organizers may have invested in flyers to help get the word out about this upcoming celebration.

The Newport Italianfest will be held at Festival Park from June 9 to 12. Call 859-292-3666 to find out more information about the festival or the 5K run.
