Celebration of books returns this fall

September 7, 2016 by

The 10th annual Books by the Banks festival is taking place next month.

A celebration of books and writing, there are expected to be approximately 150 authors from the genres of children’s, adult, teen, and nonfiction literature.

Among the authors who will be making appearances at this year’s festival are Tim Bowers, Heather Henson, Jeff Suess, Loren Long, and Rick Pender. There will also be appearances from book illustrators.

Guests will be able to take part in panel discussions, sign up for writing workshops, and attend book signings by the authors. Family activities are also planned, so children are more than welcome to attend.

The 2nd annual writing contest is being held by organizers of the festival. The theme of this year’s contest is “The River” and writing has to be in the form of short fiction. There are two categories – 18 and over, and age 13 to 17. There are $2,600 in prizes that will be handed out during the festival. The deadline for entry is October 1.

It is likely that this festival will attract people from all over the area, including nearby Florence. To spread the word, a collectible poster is available for purchase that was likely provided by a local printing company.

Books by the Banks will be held at the Duke Energy Convention Center on October 15 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Admission is free of charge. Visit the official website for the most up-to-date information.
