Two ways to socialize on offer this week

The Social Media Club of Los Angeles will host its annual holiday party tomorrow, December 17, at the Cross Campus.
The evening will feature a happy hour, raffle prizes, and networking, and begins at 6:30 pm. A food collection will also be going on at the same time and event organizers hope to collect 100 pounds of food for the LA Regional Food Bank.
Specific items needed include canned meats, rice, beans, pasta, and personal care items. The event will be held at the Cross Campus, 820 Broadway in Santa Monica. Banner printing can be a useful tool when conducting public events like this.
Elsewhere, social media fans should attend the introduction to Ruby on Rails class tomorrow to learn about programming for the web. The class begins at 7:00 pm at the General Assembly, 1520 Second Street in Santa Monica, 30 minutes from Woodland Hills. Web programming is currently one of the front-running marketing tools for businesses.
The class will offer an introduction to the web stack, an introduction to programming and an overview of the rails framework. Participants should bring their own laptop and have a basic understanding of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and hypertext markup language (HTML).
The class will be led by Jeff Dickey, a web developer with startup experience in Los Angeles and San Francisco. He is also the instructor for Back End Web Development and an organizer for the LA Code for America brigade. He has extensive experience in his field.
