New Oktoberfest event waltzing into Sacramento area
October 15, 2013 by Mark
Sacramento residents are invited to experience German culture at a fun-filled celebration this weekend.
Sactoberfest will be making its debut in the neighboring city of West Sacramento. Printing companies may be processing more orders than usual as the organizers of this new festival work to introduce it to members of the public.
The party will take place under a large outdoor tent and will be open to attendees over the age of 21. A variety of beers from Bavaria and other parts of Germany will be available for sampling. Local breweries, including Sudwerk, Roseville Brewing Company, and Two Rivers Cider, will also be offering drinks.
German food will be plentiful at the event as well; Lowbrau Bierhall will be providing traditional wurst sausages, while the owners of Sienna Restaurant have volunteered to offer authentic full meals. Attendees will also be able to purchase deli items, pretzels, and desserts.
Activities at the festival will include yodeling, keg rolling, and a Chicken Dance contest. Guests will be encouraged to arrive in German-style clothing and participate in competitions for the best dirndl dress or the best lederhosen.
The event will feature live music from the likes of the Chico Bavarian Band and The Flying Dutchman. A number of performing arts groups will also be on hand to demonstrate the waltz, the polka, and other popular dances with German roots.
Sactoberfest is scheduled for Saturday, October 19. It will run from 12:00 pm until 10:00 pm in the area of Bridge Street and Riverfront Street. Ticket prices will start at $25.
