October events range from driving to running

Sports car drivers can tune up their driving skills at a performance driving course led by expert drivers on later this month.

Students will get to drive on the Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, just 20 minutes from Vallejo, in a safe and controlled environment. The course will focus on cornering techniques.

Drivers’ cars cannot be older than 10 years. All convertible vehicles must have rollover protection that is certified.

Sonoma Raceway is located at 29359 Ca 121, Sonoma, and the event takes place on Friday, October 18. For more information, call (800) 733-0345.

There is, however, a slow down the pace a bit as well, with a walk under the full moon at the John Muir National Historic Site located at 4202 Alhambra Avenue in Martinez. The walk will take place on Mt. Wanda on the same evening as the driving event and will last approximately two hours, covering a mile.

The hike is moderately strenuous and hikers should wear sturdy walking shoes and bring a flashlight, water, binoculars, and dress in warm clothes. Please note that heavy rains will cancel the hike.

Hikers should meet at 5:45 pm at the CalTrans Park and Ride lot located on the corner of Franklin Canyon Road and Alhambra Avenue. For more information, or reservations, call (925) 228-8860.

For those inspired by the hike, the Diablo Man Triathlon will be held on Saturday, October 19, at 3737 Valley Vista Road in Walnut Creek.

This is designed for beginners who want to experience a triathlon, and for experienced competitors who want to get a headstart on racing. Banner printing can be used to mark events like these for local residents.
