Youth to run at track meet

This month, young people in Tustin have the opportunity to compete in a local track meet.

The City of Tustin Youth track meet allows young athletes to become familiar with track and field. Kids with birth dates between 1999 and 2009 may sign up for one or two events.

It costs $8 to participate in the events and individuals must register prior to March 25. The registration form can be printed out at the Tustin Parks and Recreation website. Athletes may check in at 8:00 am, and the events start at 9:00 am. Those born between 1999 to 2009 who finish in the top eight, have the chance to participate in a regional competition in early May. There will be an additional cost for this meet.

Events in the meet include runs from 50 to 1,600 meters. In addition, the field events include shot put, long jump, high jump, and the softball throw. Some events are not open to certain age groups.

Groups like the Tustin Parks and Recreation Department have used poster printing services to make signs to hang around local parks and recreation centers. In addition, companies may utilize banner printing to make advertisements to put around the track during the meet.

The meet will be held on March 29 at the Beckman High School track located at 3588 Bryan Avenue in Irvine. Call (714) 573-3326 for more details.
