Two very different, but equally worthy of hearing, people are set to take to the stage locally this week.

First, Laura Mvula is scheduled to perform with Mohammed Alidu at the Bootleg Bar in Los Angeles at 8:00 pm on Tuesday, April 16.

British songwriter and soul singer Mvula is from Birmingham and released her debut album titled ‘Sing to the Moon’ on March 4 this year.

Alidu, meanwhile, was born in Tamale, Ghana and now resides in Los Angeles. He has been involved with the Playing for Change project and is establishing himself on the international music scene with two albums and is working on a new release.

Alidu has performed with Michael Franti, Peter Gabriel, Ziggy Marley and Baaba, Maal. He explains:

“I think if you open yourself up to others, they will open themselves up to you.

“What I do I do from my heart, and so far everywhere I’ve traveled people seem to embrace that.”

The following day, April 17, Ed Ulbrich, CEO of Digital Domain will speak at the Startup Grind Los Angeles at 6:00 pm.

Ulbrich is the visual artist who created Academy Award winning effects for TRON: Legacy, Titanic, Adaptation, Fight Club, and What Dreams May Come. He will discuss creativity in businesses and how to adapt in this rapidly changing market.

The Startup Grind is located in the Cross Campus, 820 Broadway, Santa Monica, less than 30 minutes from Torrance. Such presentations often use local printing company to create eye catching graphics and handouts to give out to participants at seminars, lectures, and conventions.
