Local residents to present theatrical talents

Cultural arts fans are bound to enjoy ‘Maggie’s Getting Married’ by the Torrance Theatre Company in January.

This play follows the Duncan family’s celebration of the wedding of Maggie and future son-in-law Russell MacMillian. Unfortunately Maggie’s older sister is more familiar with the future betrothed than Maggie, causing a comedy of misunderstandings.

The play stars Annalee Scott as Maggie, Paul Rorie as Russell, Angie Light as Wanda, Lois Bourgon as Cass, Gary Kresca as Tom and James Jefferey Caldwell as Axel. The play runs from today, January 11, right up until February 9.

Performances are 8:00 pm Fridays and Saturdays and 2:00 pm on Sundays at the Torrance Theatre Company, 1316 Cabrillo Avenue, Torrance. Admission is $25. For more information call (424) 243-6882.

Staying in the field of performance, the 2013 Student Talent Show will be presented by the Torrance Chinese School and will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 20, at the James Armstrong Theatre in Torrance. The event will feature students from kindergarten through high-school performing songs, dances and comedy routines. Admission is $10. For more information call (310) 781-7171.

The Torrance Cultural Arts Center is also a wonderful venue for weddings. The Pine Wind Japanese Garden is especially popular and features a small stream, pond, and two waterfalls. The various venues can accommodate between 60 and 600 guests.

For more information on renting this facility for a show or wedding, call (310) 781-7150. Local printing companies can offer suggestions on the best invitation to use for both shows and weddings, as well as other events.
