Community input sought on educational matters

The California Community Colleges of Orange County and Los Angeles will host a collaboration event at the Hotel Maya on Wednesday, December 11.

This is an opportunity for college faculty and industry leaders to provide input on ways to innovate workforce education and training. The Hotel Maya is located at 700 Queensway Drive in Long Beach, right next to Torrance.

The Aquarium of the Pacific is offering the opportunity for students to job shadow a mammalogist on Wednesday, December 11. This is the career path for those who are interested in training marine mammals.

Job shadowers will be able to help feed the marine animals, go behind the scenes at the aquarium, learn hand signals used by trainers, and use positive reinforcement techniques on a fellow student. The aquarium is located at number 100 on the aptly named Aquarium Way in Long Beach.

Also on Wednesday, residents can help families by attending a fundraiser at the Pitfire Artisan Pizza, 12924 West Washington Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Beginning at 5:00 pm, the owners of the pizzeria will donate a percentage of the profits to the Soaring with Love Foundation, which helps less fortunate families.

The foundation is made up of parents with children in the entertainment industry. Those who RSVP will receive a Mommytrain gift bag and be entered into the raffle.

The restaurant has participating locations in downtown Los Angeles, Mar Vista, and Costa Mesa. Flyer printing is a great way to notify residents of local fundraising events.
