Christmas tree recycling available

The city of Torrance will pick up and recycle cut Christmas trees as part of residents regular curbside collection from December 26, 2012 – January 10, 2013.
Trees should be cut in half and placed at the curb on the regularly scheduled trash collection day. Place tree at least four feet from the trash containers. All tinsel and ornaments need to be removed before placing the tree on the curb.
Recycled trees will be ground up and used and landfill cover and mulch. Flocked trees are not recyclable and should be cut up and placed in the normal trash container for pickup. Any trees placed on the curb for collection after January 10 must also be cut up and placed in the regular green waste container. Tree pieces must be four feet in length or less and not more than four inches in diameter.
Due to the Christmas tree collection, regular large items will not be collected during this time. Any large item requests must be made by December 14, 2012 and will resume January 14, 2013. To schedule a large item pickup call (855) 354-5623.
Torrance’s City Hall will be closed on Monday, December 24, 2012, Christmas Eve; Tuesday, December 25, 2012, Christmas Day; Monday, December 31, 2012, New Year’s Eve; and Tuesday, January 1, 2013, New Year’s Day.
