Studio City residents urged to support the arts

People in and around Studio City are encouraged to show their support for the arts by attending a fundraiser in nearby Sherman Oaks.

In a couple of weeks, the San Fernando Valley Arts Council will be presenting ‘Hot Summer Nights…Cool Jazz’ at Cafe Cordiale in conjunction with the Valley Arts Alliance. The two organizations may be using the services of stationery printers as they exchange mail correspondence before the event.

Attendees will find an assortment of handicrafts for sale as they make their way into the cafe. The works of a number of Southern California artists, including Barbara Katz Bierman, Juliana Martinez, and Sari Sheer, will be on display and available for purchase. In total, 30% of the proceeds from this showcasing will go toward the promotion of the arts in the area.

Those who attend the fundraiser will sit down to a gourmet meal upon entering the restaurant. Once the dinner is finished, the crowd will enjoy a performance from jazz singer Michael Tompkins. Fans of the jazz genre can expect to hear renditions of many of their favorite hits over the course of the evening.

The event will also include a silent auction, which will raise funds for art programs in communities throughout the San Fernando Valley.

The fundraiser is scheduled for Monday August 5. It will begin at 5:30 pm and conclude at approximately 9:00 pm. Cafe Cordiale is located at 14015 Ventura Boulevard.

Tickets will cost $55 per person. Interested parties may visit the Arts Council’s website or call (818) 469-3380 to make reservations.
