Subcontractors helped out in recent seminar
July 23, 2013 by Mark
An employment fair of sorts was held here in Santa Ana on July 16, although it was not one held for individuals but for subcontractors seeking information on how to gain access to public works projects.
Held by the Orange County Small Business Development Center (OCSBDC) at the Rancho Santiago Community College District office, the event was titled ‘Construction Industry Best Practices & One-on-One Matchmaking Seminar’.
Attendees enjoyed a continental breakfast while mingling and networking. Later, each subcontractor was given the opportunity to make an eight-minute pitch to one of the large contractors on hand. Another part of the event was a tutorial, along with slides, presented by Karen Burgess of the Small Business Association (SBA). Her presentation was about everything a small contractor should know about SBA 8(a) certification, and the 2013 Business Development Program Application Workshops.
Several SBA 8(a) certification sessions are scheduled as well. To RSVP for one of these sessions, which are to be held July 25, August 22 and October 24, call Ms Anguiano at 714-560-7446 or visit the SBA’s website.
In addition to the certification session, there will also be another OCSBDC workshop, The Art and Science of Creating a Successful Business Plan, scheduled from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm on July 31. This one is also at Rancho Santiago Community College District Office.
These events, in addition to being a source of valuable information, are also a chance to create contacts throughout the business community, making it wise to put in a business card printing order in advance..
