Tour de Marin a month away

April 8, 2014 by

The Marin County Bicycle coalition will host the Tour de Marin in May in San Rafael. Now in its 15th year, the popular fundraiser presents a 38-mile route, giving participants a scenic ride through the city.

The ride takes place through the cities of San Rafael, Fairfax, and San Anselmo, going through the hill leading in the beautiful redwood trees. It will then head east onto Lucas Valley Road, riding past the local Skywalker Ranch and Big Rock. The final stretch will take the riders through China Camp State park ending at the Whole Foods Market. The post-ride party will commence there, including a vendor fair.

Banner printing is bound to be part of the event planning, since banners are needed to post as directional signage along the route. Food and rest stations will be placed throughout the ride. Marin artisans will present cheese and other products from local growers and farms.

Mike’s Bikes will provide a support and gear wagon along with the ride leaders, course marshals, and sweepers. A free 2014 Tour de Marin T-shirt will be given to the first 400 registrants.

Proceeds will benefit work for expanding the bicycle network of bike lanes for the safety of riders. Other projects, such as bridges, tunnels, pathways, and trails, also receive monetary support.

The Tour de Marin will take place on May 18 from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm. Visit the event website to register.
