Day of athletic competition to take place at San Bernardino college

June 18, 2013 by

Residents of San Bernardino and other Inland Empire communities are invited to participate in a day of athletic competition for all ages. On the last day of the month, the city’s California State University campus will be hosting the San Bernardino Sunset Rotary Tinman Triathlon, 5K Run, and Kids’ Triathlon. The organizers of this series of events have likely contracted with a printing company to ensure that they have posters and banners ready for the big day.

The main focus of the morning will be a challenging triathlon contest for seasoned athletes. These well-trained individuals will go on a nine-mile bicycle ride that leads them down into Devil’s Canyon, jump into a pool and swim 150 yards, and then hurry on foot to the finish line.

The day will also include a run and walk, in which individuals and relay teams of all age groups and abilities will be welcome to participate. The course will be approximately three miles long and wind around the perimeter of the campus.

The top three participants in each triathlon category will earn medals. All adults who finish the 5K or triathlon will receive prizes as well.

Children between the ages of four and 12 will enjoy a smaller-scale triathlon and a tricycle race. They will also be handed awards for their participation.

The competitions will begin on Sunday, June 30 at 7:00 am. Proceeds will go toward college scholarships, the homeless, a polio foundation, and more. Participation fees will vary. Those who are seeking further details or are interested in registering may call (909) 237-9368.
