Redding on the run for New Year

January 4, 2017 by

The Run the Redding Marathon is coming in the middle of this month.

There will be three races: the marathon, a Three-Person Marathon Relay, and the Sundial 5K. The marathon will be a Boston qualifier.

The marathon is said to be ‘26.2 With a View’, winding through a route of paved running trails along the Sacramento River. Wildlife is plentiful and runners can watch for osprey, bald eagles, and other animals. The route will also take runners over Shasta Dam, across three bridges – the Ribbon Suspension Bridge, the Diestelhorst Bridge, and finally the Sundial Bridge. It also takes participants through an old railroad tunnel.

Spectators can get guides containing maps and information about where to meet the runners along the route. Families and friends may want to fly some banners to support their favorite runners.

Those runners participating in the Three-Person Relay will receive T-shirts and free bus transportation.

The Sundial 5K starts and finishes at the Sundial Bridge. Depending on the weather, the race could begin and end on the bridge’s north side. Runners may purchase long-sleeved T-shirts.

Awards, music, and food will be on the bridge while everyone is waiting for the marathon finishers.

The big day will be January 15,and the race will begin at 8:00 am on the Sundial Bridge, 16349 Shasta Dam Blvd, Shasta Lake and Redding.
