Local man in running for Highway Hero award

According to Trucker News Services, there are four finalists for this year’s Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co award, one of which is a truck driver from Rancho Cucamonga, Ivan Vasovic. This will be the 31st year for the Goodyear North America Highway Hero award.

Every year, the awards, based out of Akron, Ohio, honor truck drivers who risk their lives to save others on the road.

This year’s winner will receive a congratulatory plaque, $5,000, and a special ring. The other three finalists will also receive a plaque and a cash prize. Several journalists who cover the trucking industry have begun evaluating each finalist and the actions resulting in their nomination.

Each finalist will be honored at the Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) and their story of heroic rescue told and celebrated. Vasovic was nominated for his part in pulling a fellow truck driver to safety from his burning rig. After several attempts to pull the victim to safety, the Rancho Cucamonga native went back to his own truck and doused himself with water. This enabled him to withstand the heat long enough to pull the driver a safe distance from the fire.

The choice for Highway Hero will be announced at (MATS) in Louisville, KY on Thursday, March 27, the show’s opening day. For events like this, vendors often seek our printing companies for their banner printing services.
