Never mind the groundhog, it’s the Year of the Snake

Those in Rancho Cordova looking for a post Valentine’s Day event that they and their children will enjoy should check out the 2013 Chinese New Year Celebration to be held at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center in nearby Sacramento.
The upcoming New Year starts tomorrow, February 10, and is the Chinese year of 4710, 4709, or 4649, depending on which Chinese scholars are to be believed. Celebration of the soon-to-be Year of the Snake will be held next weekend.
All sorts of activities are planned and are suitable for all ages. There will be games for the children, a lion dance, arts and crafts, stage entertainment, food vendors, and community exhibits. Parking is free and a small fee of $6 for those above the age of 12 and $1 for those children under 12 applies for admission.
Enterprising local businesses should piggyback on this event and utilize flyer printing to advertise clothing, food, or anything that can be construed as Chinese or oriental. Although it may be too late to take part in the New Year’s celebration this year, wise business owners will make enquiries so they can participate in next year’s event. As this is the 16th year for the Chinese New Year Culture Association (CNYCA) event, it appears to be well received.
It all takes place next Saturday, February 16, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center at 6151 H Street, Sacramento, CA. For more information, call (916) 601-7511.
