Soroptimist luncheon draws large crowd

It has been revealed that the 33rd Annual Soroptimist Salad Luncheon that took place on March 20 drew in a crowd of over 400 people.

The annual event is hosted by Soroptimist International of Oceanside-Carlsbad and is the organization’s longest consecutively running fundraiser. Each year, members of the local Soroptimist organization prepare various salads or desserts to be served to guests at the event by local celebrities. This year’s luncheon was held at the Jr. Seau Beach Community Center in Oceanside.

Ann Slezak, a Soroptimist member, stated,

“I don’t know how it happens. We just have more and more people every year.”

Proceeds from the salad luncheon were evenly distributed to scholarship funds for local girls and women, including the Women’s Opportunity Award and the Violet Richardson Award, and various donations were made to local organizations towards the enhancement of education for females in the Oceanside and Carlsbad area.

Local fundraising activities and organizational events such as this typically alert the community to the activity through poster printing or flyer printing provided by print companies in the area. Brochure printers may also be utilized to provide material related to the cause being supported at such fundraising activities.

At this year’s luncheon, guests were served delicious salads and desserts by 40 Gentlemen Celebrity Servers, including Mayor Jim Wood from Oceanside and Mayor Matt Hall from Carlsbad. Those in attendance were also given the opportunity to win various gift cards donated by businesses in and around the Oceanside and Carlsbad area.
