Mardi Gras Brunch a smashing success

The 19th Annual Mardi Gras Brunch took place in Oceanside at the El Camino Country Club on Sunday, February 10. Over 100 visitors gathered at the celebration for food, fun, and festivities for a good cause.

The event helped raise over $8,000 in donations, ticket sales and a silent auction to be used towards museum projects at the Oceanside Museum of Art. Banner printing, flyer printing, and other advertisements are typically placed throughout the community to raise awareness about such activities.

The masked event featured a buffet prepared with a Creole/New Orleans theme by ‘Chef Dan’ at the El Camino Country Club. Other activities at the brunch included a Mardi Gras mask parade, a raffle, and a silent auction. Bill IMs served as the event emcee and the Phil Burns Trio provided live New Orleans jazz entertainment.

The mask parade at the Mardi Gras Brunch was judged by Brooks Barding and Valya Royenko. Winners of the parade included Gail and John DeSalvo and Elizabeth Van Hunnick. Patty Barberio donated the Mardi Gras Hat, which was ornamented with gift cards and cash.

The Annual Mardi Gras Brunch was co-chaired by Ann Mortland and Marilyn Barding. Other committee members included Sandy Todd, Ermie Terry, and Billie Nunan. Sponsors were numerous and included Ermie and Jim Terry, who also provided the champagne.

For those who missed out on the festivities, pictures from the event (including some of the extravagant costumes) can be found on the UT San Diego website.
